In the series To Watch the Moon Move– is a culmination of three bodies of work spanning the Central Piedmont region of North Carolina. The work is on-going and has spanned over five years. The first project titled Two Cardinals in the Thicket explores rigid themes of socioecology and identity of place along with the heavy history of racial segregation. The second, titled Ned Peek & The Pug Mill puts a focus on the textile industry and class division in the region. The newest series titled To Watch the Moon Move, breaks away from rules of set themes and becomes more of a personal and experimental exploration of this space. The projects existed separately, but has time went on and the three series continue to grow, they began to connect different nuances of how the "area" is linked to "history” of this region of the American South. The work includes photographs, digital collages of yearbook imagery from segregated schools dating to the 1950's, and assemblage sculptures, and works to establish an overall conceptual survey of "place". The focus of overarching the three projects allows the viewer to develop their own connections throughout the larger picture. The work explores how the regions root in agrarian community, textile production, and class & racial segregation, connect to the current climate of the social landscape of the Central Piedmont.
Parker James Reinecker is a visual artist, photographer, and educator based in Central North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia (USA). His work within the Central Piedmont region of North Carolina has spanned to now three projects, "Two Cardinals in the Thicket" (2020-2023), "Ned Peek & The Pug Mill" (2022-2024), and "To Watch the Moon Move" (2024). The work and approach to photography and mixed media installation have changed drastically over these past projects, from working through strict themes and research to a more open-ended and abstract approach to making. All of the projects work from a place of visual connection to landscape, culture, and the investigation of conceptual identity in the American South– all working to maintain a dialog in visual literacy.
