Cucalorus & The School of Making Thinking: IMMERSION Residency Pop-Up
Reception: Friday, May 23, 2025 | 7–9 PM
Fried Fruit Art Space | Cargo District | 615 S 16th Street, Wilmington, NC
Fried Fruit Art Space is pleased to host a one-night-only pop-up exhibition featuring artists in residence with Cucalorus and The School of Making Thinking's summer program, IMMERSION. The event will take place outside the gallery on Friday, May 23, from 7 to 9 PM.
The evening will also feature readings/performances by IMMERSION Residency co-facilitators Clay Scofield and Remi Harris along with other resident artists. Scofield (they/them) is a nondisciplinary artist whose work spans performance, video, poetry, and essay. They explore themes of ambiguity, refusal, and radical imagining, embracing process over production and world-building over specialization. Harris is a creative producer, performer, choreographer, facilitator, curator, and arts leader based in NYC. Grounded in the legacy of her mentors and driven by the joy of movement, her work centers on inclusive community-building and a commitment to fostering meaningful artistic connections.
The IMMERSION Lab is a combination of a virtual reality creation residency and an invitation for artists to engage the racial history of America within the context of a southern city: Wilmington, North Carolina. The IMMERSION Lab is a partnership between both The School of Making Thinking andCucalorus. The School of Making Thinking is an artist-thinker residency program, experimental college, and multi-centered investigation into collaborative practice. Cucalorus is a multi-disciplinary arts organization supporting emerging and innovative artists through several programs including an annual film festival, a residency program, a community cinema, and an extensive community engagement program.
This outdoor pop-up accompanies Desolate Microcosm, the current solo exhibition by Jave Yoshimoto, on view inside the gallery. Sheme Of Gold will DJ the event.
