Take a journey through time in filmmakers' paradise with F-ILM. Throughout the decades, Wilmington, North Carolina provided backdrops and recording locations for a long list of filmmakers to execute their motion picture including: Blue Velvet, Empire Records, and Maximum Overdrive. To showcase Wilmington’s film scene, a collage of vintage posters flooded the walls of Fried Fruit Art Space. Presented by Happiest Kid Finds, a company operated by Milagros Melendez. Collector Milagros aspires for aesthetically pleasing, historically significant, and socially relevant posters to spark a new generation of collectors. The vintage poster industry itself is a method of preservation and inspiration to this next generation of creatives and collectors alike. Partnering with Happiest Kid, artist Chad Serhal created What Did You See?. A video collage featuring clips from the films: Blue Velvet, Cat's Eye, Maximum Overdrive, Year of the Dragon, Firestarter, Empire Records, Raw Deal (24:42 minutes). The art and act of observing the vintage poster combines an appreciation of film with graphic design and typography, to the dying art of printmaking.
