“Alter of the Face Pot is a grouping of jugs that interact with one another. The idea of functional ceramics presented in a figurative sculpture format is something that has captivated me for many years. This exhibition uses the history of the traditional ugly face jug from the Southern United States as inspiration.
When building a face pot, I strive to find balance between sculpture and functionality. I finish the face and the shape of the jug at the same time, and then add the spout and handle, creating a harmony between form and function. Weight, functionality, color, and aesthetics are equally considered.” ⏤ Calabrese
